Tableau Cloud Migration with Tabmove for Chartis

i2b2 tranSMART Foundation – A member-driven non-profit foundation developing an open-source / open-data community

Chartis is a leading advisory services firm exclusively focused on US healthcare. With over 1,000 professionals and a portfolio of trusted brands—including Jarrard, Greeley, and HealthScape Advisors—Chartis partners with providers, payers, investors, and innovators to make healthcare more affordable, accessible, safe, and human. Each year, they support over 900 clients in developing and activating transformative strategies and operating models that reshape the healthcare landscape.

Data-aligned insights have always been central to Chartis' advisory services. They ingest, transform, analyze, and report on both public and proprietary data assets to deliver the most comprehensive insights possible to their clients. This required not only a modern and resilient stack, but a strong firm data culture, supported by the know-how and processes required to work with data at scale.

The Challenge

For years, Chartis has been a data-forward organization, integrating public and proprietary data to power high-impact insights across their client engagements. However, as their data culture matured and demand increased, maintaining an on-premises Tableau Server became increasingly cumbersome.

The hardware upkeep, manual update cycles, and growing compliance requirements—especially in the wake of Salesforce’s enhanced measures—highlighted the need for a more scalable and modern deployment. As Chartis progressed on their broader cloud journey, Tableau was a clear candidate for migration.

The Solution

Biztory supported Chartis in migrating from Tableau Server to Tableau Cloud, leveraging their tool-driven approach and deep migration expertise. The TabMove methodology provided a structured and transparent framework, enabling Chartis to navigate the complexity of the migration with confidence.

From initial scoping and pricing to execution and validation, the Biztory team worked in close collaboration with Chartis to ensure a smooth, secure, and timely transition to the cloud.

The Process

01

Cloud Migration Discovery

Chartis needed a Cloud Migration approach that could meet their needs based migration complexity and speed. During a first free discovery we ran Chartis through a series of questions and came up with a high-level estimation on the cloud migration effort with TabMove.

02

TabMove Simulation

During a deep dive audit and fully remote workshop, we got hands-on access to Chartis team and server environments. While applying our proven methodology, we ran a final dry-run of our TabMove solution, simulating the full scope of Chartis' migration to Tableau Cloud.

03

Migrating to Tableau Cloud

Once agreed on the full scope and our delivery model during the simulation, it was time for the official migration to Tableau Cloud.
Here, the migration squad supported TabMove as the solution for the move from Tableau Server to Tableau Cloud.

"The process was remarkably smooth, and completed as expected, on schedule. Communication was strong throughout, and we left feeling satisfied with the process. Post-migration, the Biztory team helped troubleshoot some edge cases, which we were able to resolve.”
